About Charity

I am stealing the idea from the book Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo because I love it so much.  In fact, I have read it to my classroom every year I have taught!

  1. I have taught since 2000 in 2 states, and in urban, rural, and suburban settings.

  2. I love to dance.  When I was in Florida, I especially loved salsa.

  3. I have 2 cats:  Calypso and Annabelle.  One I inherited, the other I saved from the ASPCA.

  4. I have a master’s degree specializing in curriculum and instruction.

  5. I am married to a networking engineer (aka computer nerd) whom I adore.

  6. I have taught every grade level from PreK to 8th grade in some form or another.

  7. I have been accepted to speak at local state, and national level teaching conferences.

  8. At one point while I was teaching 3rd grade, I may have had such an organized classroom that I couldn’t find much of anything for my parent volunteers to do.  PS = that’s a good problem to have!

  9. My house, much like my classroom, may not be dust-free, but everything does have it’s place.  And I can’t go to bed if it is not straightened up.

  10. Being an organized teacher and having an organized classroom means more than having everything labeled and out of sight.  It also means you know (which in turn your students know) exactly how your class runs on a daily basis.  Really good organizers can go as far as not being in the room and the students will still continue to learn.  Note:  I do not recommend leaving the classroom unattended!

  11. BONUS - I actually LOVE to organize files, classrooms, and lesson plans.  Shhhhhh - don’t let that get around!
